The original guitar was done by Harvey Jett, Stanley "Goober" Knight and Rickie Lee Reynolds. Harvey Jett quit the band and they hired the services of Jimmy Henderson, who also did work with Ruby Starr.

Hi Tyme2Play,
That is and was so sad about The Blind Owl. 'Going Up The Country' is one of my favorite songs!
Monterey? Wow! Did you see Prince Jones (Brian) there? Jimi, Janice, Mamas and Papas, Eric Burdon, The Who?
The 'HIGH' point of Flower Power I do believe!

Val or Gus a follow up question to the Black Oak.
I thought for some crazy reason Pat Travers from Pat Traver band fame "boom boom out go the lights" maybe early 80's. Was involved with them.
I know it's an obscure question but was he with anyone prior to being a solo act?

Oh speaking of heavy gutiar from the late 70's I found a reissue remastered etc etc of FRANK MARINO AND MAHOGNY RUSH LIVE. What a chestnut.

Pat Travers wasn't involved with Black Oak. The bands second drummer Tommy Aldridge went onto fame with Whitesnake, and I believe had a stint with Pat Travers.

Gus, yes I saw ALL of them

At California Jam, the most memorable moment was the piano spinning above the stage with Emerson, Lake and Palmer. That show included Rare Earth, Earth, Wind and Fire, Average White Band and more.

Charlie-

Sometimes I feel as if I am a vat of useless information. Its amazing to me that I remember the music scene, but parts of my own personal life back then, I can't remember.

One fond memory was a party for the Stones at Billy Prestons house in Topanga.

Oh inquiring minds want to know.. was it a riot?
Actually Keith Richards lives about 2 towns over from me. There are always numerous stories and sightings etc. Billy Preston is quite the keyboard player but do tell about the stones.

charlie,

Billy had hosted the party because the Stones were in town at the time. It was 1974. Billy's house had a huge wrought iron gate with BP on it. I was there because of my step dad "The Bear". I met Mick and Keith both. The party was outrageous as you can probably imagine.

Hi Val,
Weren't the Burrito Brothers sort of the latter day byrds? I believe Chris Hillman and Mike Clark were with them but not sure!
Meeting the Stones would be just about the ultimate though. Did you meet any of the Beatles?
I'm a Beatlemaniac 4 sure!

Yes, the Burrito Brothers included Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons, Bernie Leadon, Mike Clark, Byron Berline, Chris Etheridge, and "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow, Rick Roberts, Al Perkins, Roger Bush. The members changed several times throughout the life of the band. These are just some of them.

Gene Clark also sang guest vocal on one song

Hillman later went on to form the Desert Rose Band.
